Mrs. Johnson

Meet Mrs. Johnson

Tell us about yourself:

I have worked with students and adults in special education services for 33 years. My past experience as a special education teacher, assistant principal, special education director and residential director gives me an interesting lens for serving children. I earned my B.S. in Special Education and Elementary Education from the University of Iowa in 1977. I earned a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Maine at Orono.

Besides teaching, I enjoy hiking, singing in choirs, traveling, kayaking, gardening, tending my chickens and watching an exciting baseball or football game.

Why do you like teaching?

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student light up with joy when they recognize their abilities.

What are your favorite units?

I enjoy working with students on their social skills be it in the classroom, in the swimming pool, at the bowling alley or at a Special Olympic event.

What is your parent contact plan?

My parent contact plan is open to parents as needed. It includes daily journals, email, access to my cell phone at anytime, drop in visits and scheduled meetings.

What are your homework guidelines?

I encourage students to read books of their choice at home.
