Gratitude Awards Assembly

Gratitude Awards at Thomaston Grammar School

Several students at Thomaston Grammar School were recognized for having gratitude at a school-wide assembly on December 15th. Students receiving the Gratitude Award were: Delilah Tucker, Yasiin Rosa, Jaxon Gage, Wen Xin Chen, Sonny Pittocco, Zayn Rounds, Adelina Klis, Azrael Dare, Everett Milton, Brooklyn Rounds, Kelly Trial, Jace Sawyer, Gemma Rubino, Evelyn Curtis, Philip Pittocco, Payton Porter, and Andrew Smith. Fifth grade students, Evelyn Curtis and Alyvia Baughman emceed the assembly.

Often, when we think of gratitude, we think of being thankful for what we have.  That is a part of having gratitude, but there is much more to it.  It also involves being generous towards those around us.  It is the realization that each and every one of us can have a positive impact on those around us and the world.  Students who have gratitude have a growth mindset.  They are grateful for the knowledge they have and are always looking to learn more.  They want to help others.  They are polite and understanding of those around them.  When people are kind to them, they really think about how thoughtful those actions were and how they may then pass that feeling on to others.  People with gratitude are regularly thinking about what there is to be thankful for.

Throughout the month, students were awarded daily tickets for showing gratitude. These tickets were put into a raffle and six lucky winners were drawn at the assembly. Winners received their choice of a prize, including gift cards donated by local businesses or a lunch or game with Mrs. Riley. This month’s winners were: Adelaide Walsh, Ana Magnoli, Elizabeth Guzman, Gemma Rubino, Philip Pittocco, and Calvin Chamberlain.

Alyce Hare also received the Principal’s Award. Alyce is an amazing member of the Thomaston Grammar School community.  It is apparent to all who she crosses paths with that she cares about her classmates and TGS staff members. She works hard to be a contributing member of her classroom and the greater school community.

At the end of our Gratitude Assembly, we completed a school-wide game where is “snowed” in the gym! The assembly included a shoveling battle where students and staff had to use their spoon "shovels" to shovel up cotton ball snow that was scattered across the gym floor. Team members had to shovel one cotton ball snowball at a time into their team bucket to see who could clean up the most snow in one and a half minutes, while the school community cheered them on.  Mrs. Ford and Mr. Smith led their teams into battle.  It was a close battle, but Team Smith came up victorious.

Next month, students at TGS will be focusing on empathy.

Congratulations to all the students who received awards at TGS this month!
