Several students at Thomaston Grammar School were recognized for being respectful at a school-wide assembly on November 1st. Students receiving the Respect Award were: Maisie Cunningham, Hailey Ames, Everlee Baughman, Philip Pittocco, Cassius Magnoli, Ezra Blakey, Noah Breen, Kaleb Barnard, Killian walsh, Payton Porter, Hailey Baughman, Logan McRae, Alyvia Baughman, Aubree Joynt, Zoey Hendron, Shawn King, Kate Elmore, Justin Chen, and Seamus Henry.
Students at TGS have been focusing on respect during the month of September. Showing respect is one of the most important traits that each one of us should possess and practice. Having respect for yourself and for your community members is extremely important. Being respectful includes being kind to others, seeing situations through their eyes, having empathy, communicating in an appropriate way, considering the feelings of others when making decisions regarding what you do and say, being an active listener, and so much more.
Throughout the month, students were awarded daily tickets for showing respect. These tickets were put into a raffle and six lucky winners were drawn at the assembly. Winners received their choice of a gift card donated by local businesses. The winners this month were: Ella Hamlin, Noah Breen, Charlotte Ahearn, Norah Smith, Ruby Benedict, and Alex Watson.
Justin Chen was also presented with this month’s Principal’s Award. Justin is a marvelous member of the TGS community. Justin quietly and consistently does the right thing. He follows our school rules without reminders; he is safe, kind, and tries his best always. He exemplifies what it means to be a good citizen.
The assembly concluded with a Fire Safety presentation. Four members of the Thomaston Fire Department joined students and staff for the assembly. Lieutenant Charlie Adams talked to the students about fire safety and prevention. Two firefighters, dressed with all their gear, walked around so the children could see and touch their uniforms. Many of the students had great questions to ask too! Next, the students participated in a fun game that even included the firefighters! There were four teams each charged to ‘extinguish the fire’ which was a circle of safety cones with pictures of fire taped to each one. Each team raced on scooters with fire hats toward the center circle, grabbed a ‘fire cone’ and brought it back to their team. The next player on their team went, and so on, until all the cones/fire was ‘put out.’ The teams had to work TOGETHER, not against each other to extinguish the fire. The task was accomplished in a super-fast time of 1 minute, 37 seconds! We think we have some future firefighters at TGS! Following the game, the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes were invited outside to see the firetruck up close! Thank you to the Thomaston Fire Department for taking time to educate, interact and play with our TGS students. A great time was had by all!
Next month, students at TGS will be focusing on responsibility.
Congratulations to all the students who received awards at TGS this month!
